Keanu Reeves Biography: Keanu Reeves was born on September 2, 1964, in Beirut, Lebanon, and raised in Toronto, Canada. He first gained recognition for his role in River’s Edge, while the comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and its sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, brought him widespread fame. Reeves has built a diverse filmography that includes action hits like Speed and the sci-fi sensation The Matrix series, as well as independent projects such as My Own Private Idaho and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. In 2013, he made his directorial debut with Man of Tai Chi.

Of Chinese-Hawaiian descent through his geologist father, Keanu Reeves’ first name means “cool breeze over the mountains” in Hawaiian. His mother, who worked in entertainment as a performer and later as a costume designer, moved with him and his sister to New York and later Toronto following her separation from his father. In 1999, Keanu Reeves and his girlfriend Jennifer Syme experienced the stillbirth of their daughter, Ava Archer Syme-Reeves, eight months into the pregnancy.
